Abstract
Objectives: To study eruptive tooth movement in an experimental model of perinatal hypercholesterolemia.
Methods: Female Wistar rat pups aged 50–60 days (fed either a high-cholesterol diet from mating through weaning or a control diet) will be examined at 7 days postnatal to determine: biometric parameters, lipid profile, and histomorphometric parameters of tooth eruption (degree of eruption, thickness of mineralized tissues, crown-to-root ratio).
Expected Results: In previous studies, we have observed that hypercholesterolemia causes a significant decline in bone mineral density and a reduction in interradicular bone volume, accompanied by a decrease in trabecular bone thickness, indicating an alteration in bone dynamics. Given that an individual’s nutritional status influences bone metabolism and that it is a determining factor in the eruption process, it is expected that tooth eruption will be altered.
