Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the color change before and after treatment with infiltrating resins on teeth with mild fluorosis. Methods: Children with fluorosis up to grade 3 on the Thylstrup-Fejerskov Index (TFI) were treated at schools in the municipalities of San Blas de los Sauces and Bañado de los Pantanos, La Rioja Province, Argentina. The facial surface of 84 upper incisors with mild fluorosis was treated. The color was measured on the CieLab scale using the Easyshade spectrophotometer (Vita Zahnfabrik) before and after application of the material. The teeth were treated with 18% hydrochloric acid (Dickinson) for 6 minutes, followed by application of ICON (DMG), Permaseal (Ultradent), and Enamel Bond (Densell) resins. The color difference ΔE was calculated using the formula ΔE=[(ΔL)2+(Δa)2+(Δb)2]. The mean, standard deviation, and 95% confidence interval were calculated for quantitative variables. One-way ANOVA and Student's test for related samples were applied. The significance level was set at p<0.05.  Results: ΔE showed a statistically non-significant effect between the different resins used (p=0.394). Significant changes were observed only in the dimension. Conclusions: Under the conditions of this study, it can be estimated that the color change of infiltrated teeth was similar for Enamel Bond and Permaseal resins compared to ICON, the gold standard material.
