Reduction of Intra- and Postoperative Bleeding Using Fibrin Spray Adhesive for Surgically Assisted Maxillary Expansions: Case Report at Dr. Franco Ravera Zunino Hospital. (2026). Odontoestomatología, 28(47). https://doi.org/10.22592/ode2026n47e426 (Original work published 2026)

Abstract

In the last decades, blood derivatives have brought advances in different surgical fields. Maxillofacial surgery has not been exempt. Among the advantages of these products are the growth factors and the presence of platelets that accelerate the platelet plug formation process, which is very useful in surgeries with the probability of abundant bleeding. We present the case of a 23 year old patient, operated of Surgically Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion (SARPE) in the Hospital Dr. Ravera Zunino of Rancagua, with direct application of the Vivostat system in nostrils, and approaches of Le Fort 1 osteotomy, verifying minimal bleeding in the intraoperative period without the need of systemic management with hypotension controlled by anesthesiology. The use of spray-on fibrin glue, the Vivostat® system, has been shown to be an effective and safe tool for reducing intraoperative and postoperative bleeding, while also offering improved surgical control and uniform sealing of the access points. The findings suggest a potential clinical benefit that requires confirmation in larger studies.
