Resumen
El estudio de los períodos de silencio electromiográfico se han aplicado en varias áreas odontológicas, aunque hasta el momento no se habían utilizado para evaluar la rehabilitación piezográfica. Considerando que dicha técnica se basa en el respeto de la musculatura paraprotetica y la estabilidad funcional, resultó pertinente realizar un estudio comparativo del complejo electromiográfico post-estímulo del músculo masetero entre pacientes desdentados totales rehabilitados mediante técnica piezográfica y mediante técnica convencional de prótesis completa.
Se utilizó un sistema de registros automático que permitió el análisis basal del complejo electromiográfico post-estímulo del músculo masetero asi como un seguimiento a corto y a mediano plazo.
Los resultados mostraron cambios en los parámetros electrofisiológicos estudiados con ambos tratamientos, con una tendencia más favorable frente a la rehabilitación piezográfica. En suma, los estudios refleximétricos realizados permitieron realizar una evaluación objetiva del impacto de este tipo de rehabilitaciones extensas en el sistema neuromuscular.
