Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the remineralizing, bactericidal and pigmentation effect produced by a sodium fluoride solution with silver nanoparticles compared to SDI brand Diamino Fluoride treatment. Forty extracted teeth were used, demineralized with phosphoric acid, then topically placed with Diamine Fluoride and experimentally placed on two sides of the same tooth and stored in artificial saliva at 37°C. Mineralization was measured with DIAGNOdent2095(Kavo) without treatment and after application at 1 and 24 hours, 7 and 14 days. Pigmentation was compared by means of stereo microscope photographs. Bacterial inhibition halos were tested on cultures of carious lesion samples from children on salivarius agar and tomato agar. The results show total remineralization of the samples in both treatments without statistical difference, with similarity of bacterial inhibition, slightly higher in Fluoride Diamine on salivarius agar. Areas treated with the experimental fluoride show no clinical pigmentation, 75% of those treated with Fluoride Diamine show obvious dark pigmentation. In conclusion, the remineralizing and bactericidal performance of the experimental fluoride is competent without the pigmenting effect, making it a viable alternative.
