Abstract
Remembering Prof. Hector Lanfranchi is recalling a referent for the School of Dentistry, Universidad de la República, Uruguay, as he was a distinguished scholar and researcher. Professor Lanfranchi, Specialist in Oral Pathology, served as Prof. of the Department of Stomatology of the School of Dentistry,
Universidad de Buenos Aires, and was appointed Honorary and Visiting Professor by several universities: Córdoba (Argentina), Cartagena (Colombia), Texas (USA). He also served as Director of the School of Stomatology of the Círculo Argentino de Odontología, he was appointed Academician at the National Academy of Dentistry and President of the Latin American Federation of the IADR. Our institution had the privilege of his invaluable participation and support in various activities: teacher exchanges, teaching courses, reviewing papers for Odontoestomatología and promoting the successful campaign for the early diagnosis of oral cancer entitled Sacale la lengua al cáncer (Stick your tongue out to cancer). Professor Lanfranchi’s life has been such a bright light that his gaze will always shine. We will remember his leadership, advice, patience, warmth, respect and generosity, always with the right amount of humor. His untimely death has deprived us of his presence, but his flame remains alive in all of us, reaping what has been sown, to continue with and expand the institutional commitment to prevent oral cancer by serving the community as an urgent and unavoidable objective
