Abstract
Objective: To study the responsibility of dentists in the practice of their profession, taking into account legal and ethical aspects, as well as the implications for patients in cases of dental error or malpractice. To identify the most common errors that may occur in dental practice. To assess preventive measures, strategies, and actions that dentists can implement to reduce the risk of facing civil liability in their daily work (such as medical records, informed consent, and follow-up protocols). To examine the cases of dental liability reported to the Professional Comprehensive Assistance Service (SAIP) and their corresponding outcomes.
Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional and observational research. Using secondary data available in the SAIP database. The study will analyze the temporal trend in the number of claims and the association between the type of claim and dental specialty.
Expected Results: It is expected to obtain quantitative information on reported cases of liability during the period between 2005 and 2024. The study aims to identify the most frequent causes of claims, including diagnostic errors, inadequate procedures, and lack of informed consent. It will also seek to identify the region where the professional practices and the dental specialty involved.
